Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within the urban setting.

Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Introduced

Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.

Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might seem mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.

The traitor then cleared his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants revenge.
  • The adventurer knows Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty place.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could help the team access locations they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern the city for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The cleric defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.

This means them little choice but to head to Timmony in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to assemble the Explorers and Schemers groups.

Fans can look forward to discovering which players will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
