The artist has donated the entirety of his £25,000 honor cash to the MVT, which works to protect the United Kingdom's independent concert spaces.

Fender was awarded the award on October 16 as his new release the album was declared the outstanding release of the past year.

The musician has decided to give the cash to the MVT, in recognition of the essential function small stages had in his initial steps.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing my current career if it hadn't been for all the shows I performed around the North East, and further afield, when I was starting out," said the artist. "These locations are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – about one-sixth of the total UK scene.

Recently, major artists such as Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the trust in its attempts to keep the scene afloat, by including a small levy to their ticket costs, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

Fender also participated, generating more than £100,000 on his recent tour to help numerous local spots across Britain.

The donation assisted spaces that were facing potential shutdown due to challenges caused by flooding, blazes and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, court cases and sound issues.

Additional spaces were granted financial assistance in improving facilities and gear that positively impacted performers and concertgoers.

"The idea that money from performances in major spaces helps the smaller venues, where it kicks off for musicians like me, is just sensible," the star has said.

Fender is not the first artist to contribute his Mercury Prize winnings to good deeds.

Back when the band earned the trophy in the year 1996 for their album Different Class, vocalist Jarvis Cocker stated that the band would contribute their winnings to the non-profit the charity.

That year, musician she shared her prize between several good causes, such as the children's charity and a Sickle Cell organization.

"I also gave a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their classes, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they lacked updated gear," she shared with outlets.

In recent years, the band donated their funds to the community center that nurtured their act, as well as other local music groups.

Additionally winners that year the group gave their winnings to a charity for MS after a friend was found to have the condition.

"Receiving the award was quite enough," remarked artist Small. "The prize was the bonus but we didn't require the extra, because we had the main prize. So our victory affected the lives of others."

In the past week, the trust shared it had saved a couple of local spots in south-east England, by placing them under public stewardship.

One venue in Southampton and the other in that location were purchased under the public acquisition scheme, which is supported by a national body and supporters who acquire "ownership units" in the venues.
